They plagiarised dozens of wiki cricket bios, complete with all the POV and OR violations. I'm amused that my newbie OR violations trumpeting Irfan Pathan as a future captain of the Indian cricket team have possibly reached the tables of millions of Indians. I know, they plagarised the Mumbai article once for Bombay Times in 2004. I recognised the content I had written back then. Maybe we ought to send them a gentle reminder on attribution. =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:38, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The same thing happened with the Ahmedabad edition of the Times a few days back. This time they lifted an image from here. It was this image and no attribution was given to Srikeit. - Aksi_great (talk) 18:07, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, since Srikeit published it under PD, no attribution is necessary. So they are legally safe there. =Nichalp «Talk»= 11:13, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No. Srikeit published it under GFDL. See the original picture here. User:Master of Puppets seems to have incorrectly released a derivative work under PD. I will make appropriate changes on the picture to reflect the same. - Aksi_great (talk) 11:45, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Such kinds of acts could have serious legal repercussions. Master of Puppets must be informed as to what his actions could lead to by releasing it into PD. He should have overwritten the image actually. =Nichalp «Talk»= 12:09, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have left a message on his talk page. - Aksi_great (talk) 13:15, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm. We should send them "gentle reminder"; letter to the editor? --Dwaipayan (talk) 18:16, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Or maybe you/we should start a blog badmouthing them. Then they'd probably let loose their lawyers on us and give us crap. They might carry the news on their front page which we can then cite as a reliable source and write articles about ourselves(coz we're now famous/notable:) and then they'll plagiarise those articles and sing paens for us. In the meanwhile, we'll go for an out of court settlement and make a quick buck. :D ha ha.. just kidding.  :) Sarvagnya 20:01, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
On a serious note, how about adding a ==section== on Times of India about their plagiarism of WP(and possibly other sources). Would it be OR? Sarvagnya 20:01, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That would be OR. =Nichalp «Talk»= 11:13, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Blnguyen, can you please list the date, page and city edition for the TOI article you are referring to ? Will save me some search effort. Thanks Abecedare 20:09, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

See this page Sarvagnya 20:16, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! In hindsight, I should have checked there first. Abecedare 20:19, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What was not taken from wiki has been stolen from Cricinfo. See the first paragraph here and the CI article Tintin 20:22, 28 February 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Merging Ganeshbot articles into main namespace articles

[edit]

I am involved in merging Ganeshbot articles into their main namespace ones. More specifically, I have adopted AP state and am complete with the merger of all articles with the exception of Osmania University. I need a clarification which I had already raised here. Can some one clarify this for me? The Silent Contributor 08:01, 12 March 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Etymology of the names of India

[edit]

I've become somewhat embroiled in a revert war in the article Etymology of the names of India. I think that I'm right, but then I would think that. Could some others have a look at this, or keep an eye on it, please. Thanks. Imc 23:36, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My diagnosis: You are faced with a sockpuppet of User:Maleabroad who had earlier infected the Hindu page, and left only when the relevant sections (Etymology and Who is a Hindu?) were completely rewritten with dense citations. See [1] and note the mention of "pitrabhumi". Also note that the "Baarhaspatyua Samhita" document and the cited verse are both likely to be be completely bogus (and definitely unreliably sourced), since the only reference to them is found in a letter to the editor in a VHP America newsletter.
Prognosis: Unfortunately this is a incurable, chronic condition given Maleabroad's tireless sockpupetry and persistent vigilance is the only treatment.
Recommendation: You may want to ping User:Orpheus who has been battling this affliction on multiple wikipedia pages for a long time.
Aside: Shouldn't the article be titled "Etymologies of the names of India" ? Cheers. Abecedare 00:30, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, here are some more (likely) active socks of User:Maleabroad: User:Timeroom1, User:ENVI1, User:Stoneagestudy, User:Portalmatrix0, User:Summam, User:Story Teller 00 , User:Omkar y, User:Abcde0 (I take that as a tribute :-), in case you decide to file a checkuser request. He also has created the articles Omkar (sic) and Hindu (Culture) as another venue to insert his favorite text, image (Image:102_0449.JPG) and link (http://www.geocities.com/sanatana_dharma2002/Organizations.html). Abecedare 01:11, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Doctor Abecedare. I was hoping that Maleabroad had given up, but did think that this person might be him. His new incarnations are (sometimes) a bit less abrasive, for what that's worth. Imc 15:07, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Protected. =Nichalp «Talk»= 16:52, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article needs to be deleted. Its worthless having such an article. It is even shameful to be called as a stub. Sushant gupta 07:19, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We do not delete articles just because they are stubs. Stub articles are meant to be improved upon. Instead of bringing it here, you could have added some more data on the same. =Nichalp «Talk»= 11:41, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Gupta and Nichalp. I have added a little bit :) --Bhadani 15:06, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just for future inspiration for we all: So said Angela about Stubs. --Bhadani 16:01, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Touched it up a bit too. =Nichalp «Talk»= 16:41, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
